Due to the convenience store whiskey craze... CU restocks Grant's Triple Wood
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] CU will exclusively launch Grants Triple Wood (700ml, 12,900 KRW), well known as the ‘open-run whiskey,’ starting from the 13th of this month.
Grants is one of the world’s top three blended Scotch whiskies. The newly released Triple Wood is matured in three types of oak barrels, boasting a rich variety of flavors and aromas. It features a light body, sweet taste, and subtle vanilla scent, with a smooth and clean finish.
Grants Triple Wood is a product with higher demand in the summer. When made into a highball, it can be enjoyed with an even smoother taste.
This is the second time CU is offering Grants Triple Wood. When first introduced in April, 99% of the stock was sold within two weeks.
In response to continuous restock requests from customers, CU has prepared about 5,000 bottles for the second batch, increasing the quantity by approximately 50% compared to the first batch. The price is also about 40% cheaper than direct import prices.
CU is strengthening its whiskey lineup as the popularity of Western liquors is steadily rising, moving beyond traditional soju and beer.
Looking at the year-over-year sales growth rate of Western liquors over the past three years, the growth rate was 10.6% in 2019 before COVID-19, then sharply increased to 59.5% in 2020 and 99.0% in 2021. In the first half of this year, whiskey sales growth reached 48.9%.

Park Hyungkyu, MD of the Beverage Food Team at BGF Retail, said, “Reflecting the recent increased interest in whiskey, especially among younger generations, we secured additional stock of Grants Triple Wood, the biggest hit product in the first half of the year. Going forward, CU will continue to expand a differentiated liquor lineup that reflects market trends and meets the diverse alcohol demands of customers.”
