Gwangju Buk-gu Selected for Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 'Challenge·Korea Excellent Idea Pilot Project'
Establishment and Operation of 'Bukpyeong Garden' for Lifelong Learning Utilizing Idle Spaces by 2023
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Buk-gu, Gwangju City announced on the 4th that it has been selected for the ‘Challenge·Korea Excellent Idea Pilot Project’ contest hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving a special grant of 40 million won.
This contest was held to receive excellent ideas from the public and solve social problems closely related to daily life.
Buk-gu was selected in the field of local job creation and economic revitalization, and plans to operate ‘Bukpyeong Garden,’ a lifelong learning course utilizing idle spaces, with a total project cost of 80 million won by 2023.
The program consists of three courses: ▲ Establishment of Bukpyeong Garden ▲ Training of Bukpyeong Gardeners ▲ Garden Table.
Through the courses, residents learn about garden management, urban agriculture, and meal kit production, helping them connect to employment and entrepreneurship. The program also aims to create local jobs by employing instructors needed for operation.
In particular, an application containing functions such as program location, usage status, and participation application will be developed so that ‘Bukpyeong Garden’ can establish itself as a place of learning in residents’ daily lives.
Director Moon said, “Since this is an idea project directly proposed by residents, we will successfully promote this pilot project for lifelong learning and job revitalization.”
