Seongheon Lee, Mayor of Seodaemun District, is presenting the blueprint for district administration through a presentation at the inauguration ceremony on the afternoon of the 1st.
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the afternoon of the 1st, Lee Seong-heon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, held an inauguration ceremony at Inwang Market in Hongje 3-dong to mark the beginning of the 8th term of the local government.
Earlier that day, Mayor Lee visited Inwang Market Road, a side street in the area, at dawn to encourage sanitation workers and joined in street cleaning by sweeping up fallen leaves caused by heavy rain. He then visited a fruit store on the first floor of the nearby Yujin Shopping Center to greet the merchants.
The inauguration ceremony began as Mayor Lee entered the event venue together with local merchants, children, teenagers, housewives, teachers, medical personnel, and firefighters.
To communicate more effectively with the attending guests and residents, Mayor Lee wore a headset and presented the local government’s vision in a natural presentation (PT) format instead of reading a formal script.
Through this, he shared with the audience the ‘5 Plus Policies’ including residential environment improvement, the creation of a landmark in the northwest area of Seoul, and the development of a new Daehak-ro, as well as the vision for the ‘8 Major Real Projects’ aimed at innovation in various sectors such as economy, welfare, and transportation.
Prior to this, a video showcasing Mayor Lee’s background?including his participation in the democratization movement and the Democratic Promotion Council (Minchuhoe), his role as political secretary under the Kim Young-sam administration, and his tenure as a member of the 16th and 18th National Assembly?along with the hopes of residents from all walks of life, was screened.
President Yoon Seok-yeol congratulated Mayor Lee’s inauguration through a letter read by the host, while Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon and National Assembly members Woo Sang-ho and Kim Young-ho sent video messages. Song Ju-beom, Seoul City Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs, attended the event in person to celebrate Mayor Lee’s inauguration.
Before the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Lee toured Inwang Market, greeting merchants and listening to their suggestions and difficulties.
He also pledged to fulfill his campaign promises for revitalizing the local commercial district through an impromptu speech. Merchants made hand signs to celebrate Mayor Lee’s inauguration and took commemorative photos together.
One merchant said, “Since the inauguration ceremony is held here, I hope the promise to develop the traditional market and support small business owners will be remembered and well kept throughout the term.”
The district office stated that the venue was chosen in cooperation with the Inwang Market and Yujin Shopping Center merchants’ associations to reaffirm the commitment to revitalizing the long-stagnant local area and creating a landmark in the northwest area of Seoul, addressing urgent livelihood issues.

Mayor Lee will also hold the inauguration ceremony on the same day from 4 p.m. for one hour on a temporary stage at Inwang Market.
