Gangdong Kyunghee University Hospital Establishes Post-COVID-19 Sequelae Screening Program
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Gangdong Kyung Hee University Hospital announced on the 29th that it has established a screening program to examine and manage sequelae after COVID-19 infection.
The sequelae screening program includes low-dose chest CT scans to detect pulmonary fibrosis, as well as electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, and coronary CT angiography to examine organs prone to sequelae such as the heart and cardiovascular system, allowing confirmation of major COVID-19 sequelae.
While the coronavirus primarily affects the lungs, after infection it can also impact various other organs such as the brain nerves, heart, and blood vessels. Since many sequelae symptoms are nonspecific and can occur in multiple organs, patients often need to undergo examinations in several departments. The hospital explained that this new screening program was developed to resolve such inconveniences by enabling simultaneous confirmation of sequelae.
