COVID-19 New Cases Increase by 593 from a Week Ago... 9,896 Confirmed (Update)
62 Critically Ill Hospitalized Patients... 5 Deaths
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Young-won] The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea has increased by about 600 compared to a week ago, showing signs of a slowdown in the declining trend of infections.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters on the 28th, as of midnight, 9,896 new COVID-19 cases were reported, bringing the total cumulative cases to 18,339,319. Among these, 119 cases were imported from overseas, marking the third consecutive day with over 100 imported cases.
Following June 24 and 26, the number of daily new cases on this day also increased by 593 compared to a week ago (June 21: 9,303 cases). On June 24, cases rose by 32, and on June 26, by 180 compared to the previous week. The weekly decrease rate of cases has been declining each week: 33.3% in the first week of June, 25.4% in the second week, 18.4% in the third week, and 5.8% in the fourth week.
The number of critically ill patients currently hospitalized remains at 62, maintaining the 60s range from the previous day. The nationwide critical care bed occupancy rate is 6.0%, with 5.4% in the metropolitan area and 8.1% in non-metropolitan areas.
The number of new COVID-19 deaths was recorded at 5, all occurring among the elderly aged 80 and above. The total cumulative number of COVID-19 deaths to date is 24,530, with a fatality rate of 0.13%.

With 8,219 new patients added to home treatment yesterday, the total number of home-treated patients is 39,193. Among them, 1,824 are in the intensive management group receiving health care from medical institutions.
