Two-Track Operation for Job Seeker Training and Employee Skill Enhancement
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 28th that it will nurture talent to lead the 4th industrial revolution in G-Valley, the largest cluster of small and medium venture businesses in Korea and home to one-third of Seoul's IoT (Internet of Things) related companies. Starting in the second half of this year, an IoT Academy will be established in G-Valley to train 80 professionals who can be immediately deployed in the field.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the shortage of IoT industry technical personnel is continuously increasing, while job demand is expected to grow from 68,000 in 2020 to 109,000 by 2030.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government designed the entire curriculum based on a survey of educational needs from resident companies before operating the G-Valley IoT Academy, focusing on the competencies required in the corporate field. The program is structured so that graduates can be immediately deployed in the workplace. Instructors are currently executives working in this field, ensuring that education, mentoring, and employment are all linked.
Applications for trainees, including job seekers and current employees, will be accepted from the 30th until August 10th, and 80 trainees will be selected through document screening and interviews. Job seekers will receive full tuition support, while current employees will receive 80% tuition support.
The training program consists of 88 hours for current employees and 200 hours for job seekers, running for about two months starting August 16th. For current employees, the program is organized by project units so they can select the necessary parts to take while balancing work and training. Additionally, a training center will be established within G-Valley to minimize travel time and enable practical training linked with resident companies.
For the job seekers’ course, starting from the end of September when over 80% of the training is completed, mentoring will be provided by matching trainees with HR managers from companies seeking to hire. After completion, a job fair will be held, and an intensive employment linkage program will be conducted by matching interviews between hiring companies and graduates.
