Samsung Electronics Launches World's First 240Hz 4K Gaming Monitor
Odyssey Neo G8 Supporting 4K Resolution and 240Hz High Refresh Rate Simultaneously
A Samsung Electronics model is showcasing the new curved gaming monitor, 'Odyssey Neo G8,' at a studio in downtown Seoul.
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Sunmi Park] Samsung Electronics announced that it will launch the world’s first curved gaming monitor supporting 4K resolution and 240Hz high refresh rate simultaneously, the Odyssey Neo G8, in the domestic market on the 27th.
The Odyssey Neo G8 (model name: G85NB) features a 32-inch size with 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) and a 1000R curvature curved design, applying the same ‘Quantum Mini LED’ as the Odyssey Neo G9. With a fast response time of 1ms (0.001 seconds) and a high refresh rate of 240Hz, it is recognized as the world’s fastest 4K resolution gaming monitor and won the ‘Best Innovation Award’ in the gaming category at CES 2022, the world’s largest electronics exhibition.
This product uses ‘Quantum Mini LED,’ which is 1/40th the size of conventional LEDs, as the light source, and is equipped with Samsung’s proprietary image quality control technology ‘Quantum Matrix’ and ‘Quantum HDR 2000’ supporting a maximum brightness of 2000 nits. It also controls screen brightness in 4096 steps (12-bit), supports an industry-leading fixed contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, and implements more detailed and perfect black details through local dimming zones.
The Odyssey Neo G8 also reduces screen stuttering caused by communication issues between the PC and monitor during high-spec gaming. In particular, it applies a matte display verified by global safety certification company UL for ‘anti-glare’ to prevent panel light reflection, providing an immersive gaming experience without the influence of ambient light.
Samsung Electronics has strengthened the premium gaming monitor Odyssey Neo lineup by launching not only the Odyssey Neo G8 but also the Odyssey Neo G7 model. The Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 32-inch is priced at 1.5 million KRW, and the Odyssey Neo G7 32-inch at 1.35 million KRW in the domestic market. Ha Hye-seung, Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business Division, said, “The world’s first 240Hz 4K gaming monitor Odyssey Neo G8 introduced this time is an innovative product that provides a differentiated gaming experience with the core performance and functions customers expect,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen the Odyssey Neo lineup optimized for high-spec games and lead the premium gaming monitor market.”
