At around 10 p.m. on the 21st, Changwon Maritime Police received a request for search assistance from the Gangseo Police Station in Busan regarding a missing male hiker near the coastal area of Seongtobong, Gadeokdo.
The maritime police dispatched four officers from the Sinhang Police Substation to the reported location and, while searching the rocky shore aboard the privately contracted marine rescue vessel Myeongseongho, found the missing person around 11 p.m., they explained.
According to the maritime police, hiker Mr. A had climbed Seongtobong with two acquaintances from around 2 p.m. that day to gather medicinal herbs. After his acquaintances all descended, Mr. A remained alone, got lost as night fell, and became stranded on the coastal rocky shore.
Changwon Maritime Police, together with fire services and local governments, conducted a joint survey of high-risk coastal areas, designating 25 danger zones to prevent coastal accidents. They emphasized that the rocky shore near Cheonseong Port in Gadeokdo is one of the eight focused management zones under the Sinhang Police Substation.
