POSCO-BaLLe, $100,000 Fund Donation to Kia Daechek
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] POSCO is conducting a talent development program for domestic middle and high school students in collaboration with Vale, a Brazilian iron ore supplier.
POSCO and Vale announced on the 22nd that they delivered $100,000 from the GEM Matching Fund to World Vision and awarded scholarships and certificates to 30 selected middle and high school students.
The GEM Matching Fund is a global fund contributed by POSCO and its raw material suppliers on a one-to-one matching basis, carrying the meaning of "Go Extra Mile" for social development.
Last May, the two companies signed a business agreement to establish the GEM Matching Fund, raising a total of $200,000 over two years, with $50,000 each annually, to support talent development in Korea and Brazil. In the first year, they supported university entrance for students near Vale's iron ore mines in the Marab? region of Brazil.
This year, they are supporting Korean youth together with World Vision. They plan to provide scholarships for students in need of financial support to acquire skills and explore career paths, as well as books necessary for certification acquisition, career planning coaching, and special lectures.
Since 2019, POSCO has raised a total of $2 million with 10 overseas suppliers. The funds have been used for talent development in mining areas, forest creation, and biodiversity conservation.
Vale, Brazil's largest mining company established in 1942, has been conducting joint pellet production ventures and carbon-neutral research cooperation for green steel production with POSCO, in addition to the GEM Matching Fund.
