Daejeon City Conducts Comprehensive Maintenance of Flood-Prone Road Facilities
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 22nd that it has conducted a comprehensive inspection of road facilities within the city in preparation for the summer monsoon season.
The comprehensive inspection focused on maintaining road facilities vulnerable to flooding, with the city and five autonomous districts servicing drainage pumps at 41 underground underpasses and dredging 166 rainwater inlets on low-lying roads.
Earlier, the city applied increased rainfall standards due to climate change to all underground underpasses in the area to assess the adequacy of drainage capacity, and plans to sequentially replace 10 aging pumps by next year.

Han Seon-hee, Director of the Transportation and Construction Bureau of the city, stated, “Reflecting the increased frequency of localized heavy rainfalls due to climate change, we are making special efforts to prevent flood damage,” adding, “We will conduct focused inspections on road facilities at risk of flooding that could pose a threat to human life, and strive to create a safe road environment.”
