On the first day, the 20th, the mayor-elect and the transition committee sequentially visited the Sinwol Rainwater Storage and Drainage Facility and Sinwol 6-dong Administrative Complex Town to assess the on-site facilities and held meetings with facility-related personnel. On the 21st, they visited the Western Truck Terminal to check the progress of the project.
The Sinwol Rainwater Storage and Drainage Facility visited on the first day is the nation’s first tunnel-type rainwater storage facility expanded to resolve chronic flooding damage in Sinwol-dong and parts of Sinjeong-dong. Completed in 2020, it is directly operated by Yangcheon District. It is 4.7 km long with a total storage capacity of 320,000 cubic meters, storing rainwater inside the tunnel and draining it into Anyangcheon Stream to prevent flooding, serving as a major flood control facility in Yangcheon District. The mayor-elect and committee members listened to a flood control briefing and directly inspected the tunnel 40 meters underground, completing an on-site inspection in preparation for the upcoming rainy season.
Next, at the Sinwol 6-dong Administrative Complex Town, they assessed the facilities on each floor and held meetings with facility-related personnel. The Administrative Complex Town houses various facilities for residents’ convenience, including a community center, autonomous hall, library, youth counseling and welfare center, 50 Plus Center, and support center for families with disabilities.
The mayor-elect, while listening to the operational status and difficulties from facility officials, said, “Since these facilities serve various social groups, we will operate the spaces more efficiently and meaningfully, ensuring meticulous resident welfare.”
Additionally, on the 21st, they visited the Western Truck Terminal (photo) and toured the site. Designated as an urban high-tech logistics pilot complex in 2016, the Western Truck Terminal is a freight vehicle station facility with a site area of 100,000 square meters. Currently, private development has begun and is in the Seoul city project approval stage.
The mayor-elect stated, “The facility, which has been used as a freight vehicle station for over 40 years, is now undergoing transformation. We will cooperate with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Seoul City to ensure the project proceeds without setbacks.” He emphasized, “Especially regarding the public contribution part, we will carefully review and promote the installation of facilities that residents truly need to improve their quality of life.”
Meanwhile, Lee Gijae, the mayor-elect, will hold an inauguration ceremony at 3 p.m. on July 1 at the Yangcheon Cultural Center and officially begin the operation of the 8th local government.
Jongno District held an advisory committee appointment ceremony for the 8th local government Jongno District mayor transition committee on the 16th at the district office planning situation room.
The 57 advisory committee members appointed that day were tasked with providing advice in various fields and collecting and conveying opinions that residents want to the Jongno District mayor-elect. Former district council member Shim Jae-deuk was appointed as the advisory committee chair, and former district council members Lee Suk-yeon and former Teacher Appeals Committee member Lee Geun-woo were appointed as vice chairs, respectively.
