[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Sacheon City, Gyeongnam Province, operates a self-help group called ‘Sarang Jageop’ to support the mental health of families bereaved by suicide throughout the year.
The suicide bereaved self-help group ‘Sarang Jageop’ is held at the Sacheon City Mental Health Welfare Center from June to November, on the third Monday of each month from 2 PM to 4 PM, for a total of six sessions.
Under the guidance of counseling experts, through a mindfulness group program, the bereaved are supported to healthily mourn their deceased loved ones and overcome crisis situations after bereavement to adapt to daily life.
In particular, the monthly continuous meetings provide an opportunity to regain psychological stability by listening to each other’s stories and experiencing a sense of bonding not felt elsewhere.
‘Sarang Jageop,’ which started with three bereaved members, plans to recruit up to eight participants on a first-come, first-served basis, and participants can join at any time during the sessions.
They held their first self-help meeting on June 20 at 2 PM at the Sacheon City Mental Health Welfare Center.
