Gwangju Seo-gu Installs Tumbler Cleaning Machines at Four Government Offices
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has installed a ‘Tumbler Automatic Sterilization Washer’ and begun pilot operation to promote the use of reusable items, as the use of disposable products has surged due to the spread of takeout and delivery culture amid the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.
Seo-gu announced on the 20th that it installed tumbler automatic sterilization washers in four hallways within the government office building.
Seo-gu has previously encouraged the use of personal tumblers and mugs as reusable cups for environmental protection and resource saving, but the inconvenience of having to wash tumblers directly hindered the activation of tumbler use within the building.
The newly installed tumbler automatic sterilization washer can sterilize and wash tumblers easily within 10 seconds using only water without detergent, allowing citizens and employees using the building to use reusable cups hygienically and conveniently.
A Seo-gu official said, “We hope that by practicing the reduction of disposable cup use starting from public institutions, a consensus will be formed in the local community and spread as a carbon-neutral citizen practice,” and added, “We ask for active participation in using tumblers when visiting the district office.”
Meanwhile, last month Seo-gu drafted and distributed guidelines to restrict the use of disposable products within the government office building, installed shared cup sterilizers, and continues to operate the rental of reusable items (cups, plates, etc.).
