Gyeonggi-do to Promote Robot Demonstration Project... 330 Million Won Support Provided
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will invest a total of 330 million KRW this year to carry out a robot demonstration support project in both private and public sectors.
The robot demonstration support project is being promoted with the aim of activating the distribution of robots in industrial sites and daily life in response to the increasing demand for non-face-to-face services.
Since last year, the province has restructured its support from focusing on robot research and development (R&D) to focusing on demonstration. This year, the province will support up to 120 million KRW per project, with a total of 330 million KRW for three projects.
There are two participation types: 'Open Competition' and 'Military-Linked Designated Competition.'
The Open Competition recruits various business models for robot utilization in industrial sites and daily life. Recently, manufacturing and logistics robots as well as service robots such as disinfection and delivery, which have high demand, are given preference. Other demonstration topics and locations aimed at improving convenience for residents can be freely proposed. Two projects will be selected in total, with support of up to 120 million KRW per project.
The Designated Competition is a field proposing robot business models usable by the military. The Army selects appropriate locations among units in the province to serve as testbeds for demonstration topics. One project will be selected in total, with support of up to 100 million KRW per project.
The Military-Linked Designated Competition was newly introduced this year for robot and drone demonstration support projects, based on the 'Gyeonggi Province-Republic of Korea Army Business Agreement for Mutual Exchange and Cooperation in Future Technology Fields' signed last year.
To strengthen the capabilities of local companies and introduce excellent private products for military modernization, demonstrations are conducted using the Army's special environment, which is difficult for the private sector to access.
Applications must be submitted by the 30th of this month with documents such as a business plan, either by mail or in person to the Future Technology Promotion Team of the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency.
Supported companies will be finally selected in July after document screening and presentation evaluation.

A provincial official stated, "As digital transformation in the industrial sector and demand for non-face-to-face services rapidly increase, the growth potential of the robot industry is expanding even more," adding, "We will actively support the fostering of the robot industry through government public projects and the province's own projects."
