Hansol Paper's 'Protego' Used for Lotte Zero Fruits Jelly Packaging
Reduction of Aluminum and Plastic Usage in High Barrier Paper Packaging Protego, Expanding Eco-Friendliness
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Hansol Paper announced on the 16th that it will apply its eco-friendly packaging material 'Protego' to Lotte Confectionery's new product 'Zero Fruits Jelly.'
Zero Fruits Jelly, launched by Lotte Confectionery, is a sugar-free jelly product that uses the alternative sweetener maltitol instead of sugar, reflecting the 'Healthy Pleasure' trend.
It has about 25% fewer calories compared to conventional jelly products and contains no sugars or colorants, allowing for a healthier enjoyment.
In particular, by applying Hansol Paper's eco-friendly paper material Protego to the outer surface of the package, the use of plastic film and aluminum materials is reduced, enhancing its eco-friendliness.
Protego is a special paper packaging material that blocks moisture, oxygen, and odors, created by combining Hansol Paper's papermaking expertise and coating technology.
It has high barrier properties that were difficult to achieve with conventional paper packaging, improving the preservation of the contents. In this regard, the technology has been recognized and patents have been registered domestically and internationally.
Additionally, it uses FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified pulp produced through sustainable forest management, and has been certified by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), and has received recycling certification from UL, proving its safety and eco-friendliness as a food packaging material.
Recognized for such technological innovation and sustainability, it won the 2021 WorldStar Packaging Award selected by the WPO (World Packaging Organization), and is being applied to packages for various uses such as food, cosmetics, and daily necessities in line with the spread of eco-friendly trends.
Hansol Paper and Lotte Confectionery have been building a close cooperative relationship to strengthen ESG management, including jointly developing cocoa cardboard using cocoa by-products last year and signing a 'Sustainable Eco-friendly Package Development Business Agreement.'
