Songpa Police Station Urges Active Cooperation with Financial Institutions
[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The Songpa Police Station in Seoul announced on the 16th that it awarded a letter of appreciation to Manager Woo Insuk of NH Nonghyup Bank Jamsil Central Branch for preventing telephone financial fraud (voice phishing) on the 24th.
Manager Woo detected a customer suspected of voice phishing and reported it to the police, preventing damage. It was reported that the customer was making a call regarding the sale of his son's organs and was asked to cancel a savings account and transfer money.
Lee Jongwon, Chief of Songpa Police Station, stated, "Even if the police catch voice phishing suspects through their efforts, it is often difficult to recover the lost funds," and added, "Active interest and reporting by financial institution personnel are important."
