"Watermelons and Fans Selling Well" Emart Prepares Early for 'Summer Sale'
Highest Average Nationwide Temperature Recorded from March to May
Early Heat Boosts Sales of Summer-Related Products
Watermelon Up 26.6%, Fans 163.8%, Swimwear 81.5% from March to May
Emart Offers Discounts on Watermelons, Summer Fashion Accessories, and Water Leisure Goods
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Due to the early heat continuing from spring, demand for purchasing summer products in advance has increased.
Emart announced on the 16th that an analysis of summer product sales from March to May showed a significant increase in sales of representative summer items such as watermelon, electric fans, swimsuits, ice, carbonated drinks, and corn.
Sales of watermelon, a representative summer fruit, grew by 26.6% compared to the same period last year from March to May. As more customers purchased summer seasonal appliances in advance, electric fan sales surged by 163.8%. Separately, 'Chodang Corn,' which can be easily eaten without a hot steamer, was introduced in stores in early May, and its sales increased by 144.2% compared to the previous year over one month.
Additionally, swimsuit sales increased by 81.5% from March to May, and water leisure products such as buoyancy suits, snorkels, and aqua shoes saw a 326.3% increase in sales. Ice sales rose by 24.5%, carbonated drinks by 27%, refrigerated coffee beverages by 10.8%, and ice cream by 5%, showing an overall increase in summer-related product sales. This is analyzed as a result of the early summer weather from March to May leading to more 'summer early bird' buyers purchasing related products in advance.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration's '2022 Spring Climate Analysis Results' released on the 7th, the nationwide average temperature from March to May was 13.2 degrees Celsius, 1.3 degrees higher than the average. This is the highest temperature since the meteorological observation network expanded nationwide in 1973.
With summer-related product purchases accelerating, Emart announced it will hold a 'Prepare Summer in Advance Discount Event.' From the 16th to the 22nd, the 'e Watermelon Museum' event will be held for one week, offering a 3,000 KRW discount on all 'famous region watermelons' harvested from Maengdong, Deoksan, Gochang, and other areas when purchased with the event card. All Black Mango and Kkamang Apple watermelons will be sold at a 2,000 KRW discount with the event card. Until the 29th of this month, a 50% discount promotion on all watermelon products will be available for new Emart app subscribers, limited to 30,000 watermelons nationwide and one per person. Seasonal 'Chodang Corn,' available from May to early July, will be sold at about 49% off the regular price.
Ahead of the summer vacation season, discount events for summer fashion accessories and water leisure products will also be held. For two weeks until the 29th, all sandals and slippers will be sold at a 30% discount when purchasing two pairs with the event card. Days beach hats, raffia sun visors, and Dolphin Clap sunglasses can also be purchased at a 30% discount when buying two items with the event card.
Days' representative T-shirts, suitable for the summer season, will be offered at a 40% discount, and Days Coolism innerwear will be sold at a 30% discount with the event card. Water leisure products such as Buffalo buoyancy vests and Cheonsang-ui Nalgae infant swim jackets are also planned at promotional prices.
