Youth and Public Language Status Survey, Native Korean Word Research, and Activities to Preserve Korean Language and Writing
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] The Korean Language and Culture Center at Gyeongsang National University held the '2022 Gyeongnam Uri-mal Gakkeumi Launch Ceremony' on the afternoon of the 13th at the Academy Hall of the College of Humanities on the Gajwa Campus.
'Uri-mal Gakkeumi' is a club that leads the proper use of language by the public and the spread of desirable Korean language culture, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Language and Culture Center Federation.
This year, the Gyeongnam Uri-mal Gakkeumi included 12 university students from the Gyeongnam region, led by the Uri-mal Gakkeumi representative Jeong Hyun-ah (Department of Korean Language and Literature, 3rd year).
The Gyeongnam Uri-mal Gakkeumi will engage in various activities that encourage residents' participation, such as surveys on youth and public language usage, research on native Korean words, events commemorating King Sejong's birthday and Hangeul Day, and street promotions to raise awareness of the Korean language.
The event was simply conducted in the order of opening, greetings, Uri-mal Gakkeumi oath and appointment certificate presentation, Uri-mal Gakkeumi pledge, and commemorative photo.
Kim Min-guk, director of the Korean Language and Culture Center, said, "I hope that through the activities of this year's Gyeongnam Uri-mal Gakkeumi, a proper language culture will take root in the Gyeongnam region."
