"Maximum-Level Electronic Display" New York Mets Home Stadium Transformed by Samsung's New Technology
[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] Upon entering Citi Field, the home stadium of the U.S. Major League Baseball (MLB) team 'New York Mets' on the 14th (local time), the first thing that caught the eye was the LED signage displaying photos and statistics of the players. Inside the massive stadium, slender ribbon displays and LCD screens are installed throughout, helping baseball fans not to miss key game moments no matter where they are seated. This is part of the results of Samsung Electronics' support to achieve the Mets' goal of building the most advanced stadium technology in MLB.
Samsung Electronics and the Mets held the 'Samsung Tech Summit' at Citi Field, their home stadium located in Queens, New York, to introduce the progress of the 'Citi Field Renovation Project' that has been underway since the end of last year. Selected as the official display partner, Samsung Electronics is supplying solutions that can control about 1,500 displays including the main scoreboard inside Citi Field and various multimedia content, aiming for completion in time for the opening of the 2023 spring season.
Samsung Electronics' new technologies are already visible throughout the stadium. A large LED signage at the Jackie Robinson Plaza, a major landmark, is a representative example that can be seen immediately upon entering. Fixed signs inside the stadium have also been replaced with ribbon displays and about 300 LED signages to welcome spectators.
The large LED scoreboard, which will be the highlight of the renovation, will be replaced after this season and unveiled in 2023. It will feature 4K high resolution and support replay screens from six times more angles compared to the past.
Harry Faltz Jr., Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics North America, told reporters, "It will be one of the largest scoreboards among all sports stadiums," and explained, "Displays will also be installed on the back of the scoreboard so that people moving near JFK Airport can see it."
Mark Brubaker, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of the Mets, said, "We want to provide fans with a new game viewing experience," adding that baseball fans accustomed to fixed signs in the past will be able to enjoy various sights and information through Samsung Electronics' displays.
