Comprehensive Review of 2021 Yeosu Gwangyang Port ESG Management Performance,
ESG Management Report Registered for Two Consecutive Years in the UN Global Compact
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun, YGPA) announced on the 14th that it is striving to practice company-wide ESG management, including registering its ESG management report with the UN Global Compact (UNGC) for two consecutive years.
Established in 2000, the UNGC is the world's largest voluntary corporate initiative under the UN, with over 19,000 companies and institutions participating from more than 160 countries worldwide to enhance sustainability and corporate awareness.
To implement ESG management, YGPA has achieved a 49% self-sufficiency rate in renewable energy and succeeded in marine plastic collection and resource circulation commercialization projects.
Additionally, through social contribution activities linked with the local community and job creation projects, it has achieved top-level contributions to social value.
Along with this, YGPA was selected as an excellent institution in comprehensive integrity by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission through the operation of a solid ethical management system.
By registering the ESG management report this year as well as last year, which comprehensively covers the four major areas related to social responsibility and sustainable development goals (environment, labor, human rights, anti-corruption) and ESG management performance, YGPA is reborn as an ESG management practice institution that meets global standards.
President Park Seong-hyun said, “We will comply with the UN’s 10 principles and become a sustainable company by advancing the ESG management system,” adding, “We will actively communicate not only with port stakeholders but also with the public, and all employees will work hard to build Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority as a clean platform connecting land and sea.”
