The gender impact assessment is a joint evaluation indicator for cities and counties. In Gyeongsangnam-do, a gender impact assessment on policies is conducted annually for 18 cities and counties to contribute to the realization of practical gender equality and to identify cities and counties with excellent policy improvements.
Hapcheon-gun aimed to increase the policy improvement rate of the gender impact assessment by conducting gender impact assessments when enacting and revising ordinances and reflecting the results in the ordinances. It also actively consulted on policy projects and continuously monitored the projects to induce policy improvements.
As a result, Hapcheon-gun achieved first place in the gender impact assessment improvement rate for projects in Gyeongsangnam-do and was selected as an excellent institution. Eun-sook Lee, the officer in charge of the elderly, children, women, and women & youth, presented excellent cases and received a commendation from the governor.
A county official said, “This is the result of efforts by each department to realize practical gender equality in the projects implemented by Hapcheon-gun, and it was possible because the residents showed interest in Hapcheon-gun’s policies and actively participated.” He added, “We will continue to strive to increase the policy improvement rate.”
