Momentum Builds for Webtoon IP Game Production Including Eight One
Targeting Game Release by Late 2023... Up to 600 Million KRW Support
Naver Webtoon IP Provided, Google Play Global Marketing
Billionaire Games, ENPV1, Super Jam, Jaraneun Seed, and Eight One have been selected as recipients of the 'Webtoon IP-linked Game Production Support.' All are companies preparing to launch games by the end of 2023. They will receive up to 600 million KRW in funding from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA).
The Webtoon IP-linked Game Production Support is a project jointly conducted by KOCCA, Google Play, and Naver Webtoon. It aims to promote win-win cooperation between content platform companies and local small and medium-sized game developers, and to discover excellent game companies capable of competing in the global market.
KOCCA selected five local small and medium-sized game companies on the 14th through document and presentation evaluations. A KOCCA official stated, "Not only did they well reflect the worldview and characters of the webtoon IP in the games, but they also stood out by showcasing new attempts such as combining various genres and integrating metaverse elements."
Naver Webtoon will provide the 'Sasin Sonyeon' IP to Billionaire Games and ENPV1, the 'Resa' IP to Super Jam and Jaraneun Seed, and the 'Maeum-ui Sori' IP to Eight One. Google Play will assist with global marketing and other support. A KOCCA official said, "We will actively support the development of high-quality games and their successful overseas launches."
