New Appointment: Baek Jong-wook as Head of the 3rd Division at the National Intelligence Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Baek Jong-wook (59), former head of the National Cybersecurity Center at the National Intelligence Service (NIS), who has been appointed as the 3rd Deputy Director (vice-ministerial level) of the NIS, will oversee scientific cyber intelligence operations.
The newly appointed 3rd Deputy Director Baek graduated from the Department of Electronic Engineering at Kyungpook National University and earned a Ph.D. in Information Security from Kyonggi University. He has lectured on national cybersecurity policy at Gachon University and Dongshin University. Baek has advocated for the establishment of a 'Cybersecurity Agency' and the operation of a provisional body tentatively named the 'Cybersecurity Special Committee' (with concurrent committee membership) in the National Assembly.
