Breast Cancer, the Leading Female Cancer, Accuracy Improved with JW Medical's 3D Imaging Device
[Asia Economy Reporter Youngwon Kim] JW Medical's premium 3D mammography system is gaining attention. Since 2014, JW Medical has exclusively supplied the premium 3D mammography system from the global imaging diagnostics company 'Hologic' in Korea, and recently launched the digital 3D mammography system '3Dimensions' and the biopsy-dedicated mammography device 'Affirm Prone Biopsy System.'
Breast cancer, the world's leading cancer among women, is difficult to detect early due to the lack of initial symptoms, but early detection is crucial as the cure rate is relatively high when diagnosed early. Mammography (X-ray mammography) is a screening method that compresses the breast flat and transmits X-rays to identify malignant nodules and microcalcifications. It has excellent diagnostic accuracy and low cost. Especially, since most Korean women have 'dense breasts' with more developed glandular tissue than fat, mammography using high-spec equipment of 3D or higher is necessary to effectively detect tumors hidden by glandular tissue.
JW's flagship product, 3Dimensions, is a high-end 3D dedicated model that converts X-ray projection signals into digital signals for imaging. It supports a direct method with ultra-precise stacking resolution of 70 microns (0.07 mm) and can capture images in just 3.7 seconds, the fastest scan speed in its class. By capturing more than 15 images from various angles and producing densely layered images at 1 mm intervals, it can clearly distinguish cancer cells or microcalcifications that were difficult to detect with conventional 2D products. Therefore, using 3Dimensions eliminates the need for retakes or additional ultrasound examinations to obtain accurate results.
The effectiveness of 3D mammography has been proven through large-scale studies. In 2014, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published a paper stating that 3D mammography increased the diagnosis rate of invasive breast cancer by 41% compared to conventional imaging.
