Dongwon F&B Reduces 1,200 Tons of Plastic Annually by Lightening 'Dongwon Saemmul' PET Bottles
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] Dongwon F&B is actively engaging in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management by reducing approximately 1,200 tons of plastic annually through lightweighting its ‘Dongwon Saemmul’ PET products.
After more than two years of research and development, Dongwon F&B reduced the weight of the Dongwon Saemmul 500㎖ and 2ℓ PET products by 15.7% and 8.4%, respectively, decreasing plastic usage. Notably, the 500㎖ PET product weighs only 11.8g, making it one of the lightest in the industry. Dongwon F&B also introduced a lighter ‘eco-cap’ by lowering the height of the cap. The label length was boldly reduced by more than 20% to enhance environmental protection effects. Through these efforts, Dongwon F&B expects to save about 1,200 tons of plastic annually.

The Dongwon Saemmul package design was also renewed. The natural environment of Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, the main water source of Dongwon Saemmul, was visualized and rendered in three dimensions on the PET bottle, with the label also depicting this to emphasize Dongwon Saemmul’s refreshing and clean image. Dongwon F&B has led sustainable management in the water industry through various ESG activities. Last year, it launched the label-free eco-friendly water ‘Dongwon Saemmul Labelfree,’ and in April, it also launched the challenge application (app) ‘Mullo.’
