Jeju Accommodation Construction Site 60s Worker Falls to Death... Serious Accident Investigation Under Act
Ministry of Employment Investigates Construction Company Yugang General Construction
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] At around 8:51 a.m. on the 12th, a report was received by 119 that a worker in his 60s, Mr. A, fell from the 3rd floor to the 1st floor at a lodging facility construction site in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju City.
Mr. A was transported to a nearby hospital by the 119 emergency medical team that responded to the call but ultimately passed away. It was investigated that he fell while dismantling scaffolding materials (temporary structures installed to allow work at heights) from a height of 6.8 meters and passing them down to the ground.
The police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident by questioning those involved at the site.
The Ministry of Employment and Labor is investigating whether the construction company, Yugang Comprehensive Construction, violated the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.

The Serious Accidents Punishment Act, which has been in effect since January 27, allows for the punishment of business owners and management officials who fail to fulfill accident prevention duties when serious industrial accidents such as worker deaths occur at workplaces with 50 or more regular employees (or construction sites with a project amount of 5 billion KRW or more).
