Incheon City Expands 'Cashless City Bus' Service to 17 Routes Starting from the 20th
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] City buses in Incheon that have eliminated cash fare boxes will be expanded.
Incheon City has decided to increase the 'cashless payment buses,' which have been piloted on 2 routes since January, to a total of 17 routes with 228 buses starting from the 20th.
The 15 newly added routes are 2-1, 6, 24-1, 34, 35, 76, 103-1, 111, 307, 330, Circular 43, 510, 511, 579, and 586, while the existing 2 routes are 62 and 535.
Passengers without transportation cards can obtain a mobile transportation card by scanning the QR code on promotional materials attached at bus stops or purchase a 5,000 won transportation card available on the bus.
Monitoring results from the pilot operation period from January to April showed that passengers without transportation cards accounted for only 0.06% of all passengers, and there were 19 complaints about inconvenience.

According to Incheon City statistics, the cash boarding rate for city buses, which was 3.52% in 2018, gradually decreased to 2.60% in 2020 and 2.20% in 2021, while the annual maintenance cost for cash fare boxes was about 360 million won.
