Sim Gyuseung, CEO of Iljin Steel, Awarded Dongtan Industrial Medal for Localization of Seamless Steel Pipes
[Asia Economy Reporter Kwak Minjae] Shim Gyuseung, CEO of Iljin Steel, received the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit at the '23rd Iron Day' ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Iron & Steel Association.
According to Iljin Steel, he was recognized for his contribution to the development of metal forming parts and materials by domestic localization of seamless pipes for the first time in Korea. Seamless pipes are welded-free steel pipes made by heating a billet with a circular cross-section, piercing a hole with a mandrel, and rolling it.
Iljin Steel is the first company in Korea to develop seamless pipes. It specializes in producing industrial precision drawn steel pipes.
Meanwhile, Iron Day was established to commemorate June 9, 1973, the day when molten iron was first produced in a modern blast furnace. Since then, Korea's steel industry has continued to develop and currently boasts the world's sixth-largest scale.
