Gangjin-gun Operates Mobile Physical Therapy Bus for Medically Underserved Areas
Providing Services Such as Infrared Therapy and Manual Therapy by Visiting Medically Underserved Villages Once a Month
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin County Health Center will operate the 'Mobile Physical Therapy Bus for Medically Underserved Areas' year-round to improve the health management and medical standards of county residents.
The mobile physical therapy bus for medically underserved areas will start in Omcheon-myeon from June and will operate from 2 PM to 4 PM every month at senior centers in 122 villages located in each myeon (township) area.
Recently, due to the aging rural population and the increasing incidence of chronic degenerative diseases among the elderly, the demand for physical therapy has steadily increased. However, medical institutions with physical therapy rooms are concentrated in eup (town) centers, making it difficult for elderly residents living in myeon areas to access these services.
Accordingly, Gangjin County plans to provide one-on-one customized physical therapy, interferential current and infrared therapy, manual therapy services, and more through the operation of the physical therapy bus to alleviate the inconvenience of residents traveling to hospitals.
In particular, a mental health service psychological support program will also be linked and operated for residents who have experienced anxiety and depression due to prolonged difficulty going out during the COVID-19 pandemic.
For detailed bus operation schedules by village, please contact the Visiting Health Team at Gangjin County Health Center.
Seo Hyun-mi, Director of the Health Center, stated, “We will gradually expand the visiting and face-to-face services that have been limited due to the Health Center’s focused COVID-19 response and social distancing, and we will carry out the operation of the mobile physical therapy bus for medically underserved areas in a substantial manner.”
