Boseong Police Arrest Couple Suspected of Agricultural Product Theft
Taking advantage of sparse human presence and lax management during late-night hours to commit the crime
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] The Boseong Police Station in Jeonnam announced on the 10th that they apprehended a couple, Mr. A (73 years old) and Mrs. B (66 years old), who habitually trespassed into a garlic field late at night and stole garlic worth approximately 1 million won through investigation and stakeout.
The couple, Mr. A and Mrs. B, who have no fixed occupation, committed the crime by taking advantage of the fact that the area was sparsely populated and poorly monitored during late-night hours. They were caught at their residence in Boseong for their shameless crime of secretly stealing agricultural products that were lovingly cultivated like their own children, causing distress to the farming community.
After the incident occurred on May 29, the Boseong Police immediately analyzed nearby CCTV footage to identify the suspects' appearance and confirmed their residence through inquiries with village residents, leading to their arrest. The stolen garlic was recovered and returned to the victim.
Police Chief Oh Im-gwan stated, “With the harvest season underway, thefts of agricultural products are occurring frequently. We will make every effort to apprehend thieves who steal the hard-earned agricultural products of our citizens to protect these valuable assets.” He added, “We will strengthen preventive publicity activities and patrols targeting the residents of Boseong to prevent agricultural product theft.”
