A city bus driver who ignored the signal and hit a pedestrian crossing the crosswalk, causing the pedestrian's death, was sentenced to a fine.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Woo-seok] A city bus driver who ignored a traffic signal and fatally struck a pedestrian crossing the crosswalk was sentenced to a fine.
The Ulsan District Court Criminal Division 5 (Judge Han Yoon-ok) announced on the 10th that it sentenced Mr. A, who was tried for violating the Special Act on Traffic Accident Handling, to a fine of 10 million won.
Mr. A was indicted on charges of driving a city bus on a road in Ulsan last November and fatally hitting a pedestrian in their 60s who was crossing the crosswalk.
At the time, Mr. A was making a right turn and entering the crosswalk, and although the pedestrian signal was on, he did not stop and continued driving, according to the investigation.

The court stated the sentencing reasons, saying, "Compensation for the victim was made through the mutual aid association, and the defendant reached a settlement with the bereaved family by separately paying a criminal settlement amount. Considering these points, as well as the fact that he was dismissed and is facing financial difficulties, we took these into account."
