SK Hynix visit by Korean Prime Minister: "We will increase enrollment quotas for advanced industry talent training at universities in both the Seoul metropolitan area and provinces"
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Kim Hyewon] Prime Minister Han Deok-su said on the 9th, "We will drastically increase the enrollment quotas of universities in the metropolitan area and provinces to nurture talent in advanced industries."
On the afternoon of the same day, Prime Minister Han held an on-site meeting with companies at SK Hynix's Icheon campus and stated, "If necessary, financial resources will be invested in nurturing educational institutions."
Prime Minister Han said, "At 4 p.m. the previous day, ministers from five ministries held a phone conference where they discussed how to nurture talent and how to increase the capacity of educational institutions and universities in both the metropolitan area and provinces, and they reached a consensus on certain numbers."
At the meeting, Prime Minister Han discussed securing semiconductor industry manpower and improving complex regulations with business leaders. Attending from the companies were Park Jung-ho, Vice Chairman of SK Hynix; Hwang Cheol-ju, CEO of Jusung Engineering; Kim Nam-cheol, President of Nepes; and Yeo Moon-won, CEO of Mico Ceramics. Woo Tae-hee, Vice Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Kwak No-jeong, Chairman of the Semiconductor Association, also participated.

Prime Minister Han emphasized, "The past measures where companies donated large sums to universities to create departments and increase enrollment by about 50 to 60 students will no longer exist," adding, "The entire government is supporting the Ministry of Education to solve this as a national task." He continued, "The new government will devote all its efforts over the next five years to fostering and developing advanced industries." Since the 3rd, Prime Minister Han has been conducting a 'relay on-site meeting' once a week to visit companies and listen to their voices on the ground.
