Gwangju Labor Office Conducts Intensive Safety Inspections on Manufacturing Transport and Cargo Handling Operations
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Regional Labor Office (Director Hwang Jongcheol) announced on the 8th that it conducted a comprehensive inspection of the implementation of the three major safety measures in observance of the 'Field Inspection Day.'
Field Inspection Day is a biweekly Wednesday inspection started on July 14 last year, targeting small and medium-sized manufacturing industries. The inspection focuses on fall accident prevention measures, entrapment accident prevention measures, and the wearing of personal protective equipment.
With the number of fatal accidents in manufacturing, especially during transportation and cargo handling operations, rapidly increasing, a nationwide 'danger alert' for manufacturing fatal accidents has been issued. The inspection concentrated on whether manufacturing companies comply with safety rules during transportation and cargo handling operations.
As of May 6, the number of manufacturing fatalities in the Gwangju area stands at seven, with two deaths occurring during transportation and cargo handling operations.
Nationwide, there have been 25 fatal accidents during transportation and cargo handling operations. This is a sharp increase compared to the average of about eight deaths over the past three years (2019?2021).
The main causes of fatal accidents during transportation and cargo handling in manufacturing are identified as working without a work supervisor or performing tasks without a prepared work plan.
