‘Magnum Photos’ Actively Creating Works in 1004 Islands, Sinan
Photographer 'Jonas Bendiksen' Capturing Places Beyond the Eye's Reach
[Sinan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do is actively engaged in artistic activities from the perspective of photojournalists together with photographers from Magnum Photos to highlight the value of its beautiful islands.
Magnum Photos is a group of freelance photojournalists composed of world-renowned press photographers.
Starting last year with Mark Power and Bruce Gilden from the UK, this is a five-year project featuring 10 Magnum Photos photographers with different backgrounds and personalities, each capturing their own themes in various spaces of Sinan such as islands, mudflats, coasts, forests, villages, and fish markets.
Currently, Jonas Bendiksen, born in Norway, is participating with the theme of "Island landscapes and the lives of people living based on the islands."
Jonas Bendiksen is a photographer who visualizes complex and hard-to-judge subjects that are off the grid and beyond our usual perspectives, without falling into black-and-white logic.
Also, Mokpo MBC is producing a UHD documentary video and messages under the theme "Sinan as seen by Magnum," capturing the artists' working processes.
In the upcoming September, Alex Majoli (Italy) plans to shoot with the theme of "People traveling to their hometowns during holidays and the daily lives of county residents," and in December, Newsha Tavakolian (Iran) will focus on "The labor of island women in winter and the lives of island people."
