[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The National Gwangju Science Museum recently announced on the 7th that it successfully concluded the '3rd Wintermot Model Boat Creation Competition.'
The competition was held on the 4th at the outdoor Mirror Pond within the science museum, attended by 60 students and their instructors who passed the preliminary round. It was co-hosted with the Gwangju Science Culture Association.
Participants learned the scientific principles necessary for boat making through videos, then applied them to design model boats and write research reports.
Afterwards, they went through the process of physically building the models using motors and gear parts provided by the science museum.
They floated their self-made model boats on the Mirror Pond and competed fiercely over two rounds, with final winners determined by combining design and operation scores.
The grand prize winners in both the elementary and middle school divisions received the Gwangju Mayor's Award, and the gold prize winners received the Gwangju Superintendent of Education Award. One winner each for silver, bronze, and encouragement prizes received the National Gwangju Science Museum Director's Award.
