View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] A delegation led by Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, along with affiliated lawmakers, met with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv to discuss support for refugees. Earlier, the People Power Party delegation departed for Ukraine on the night of the 3rd.
According to the People Power Party on the 5th, Lee said after a dinner meeting with NGO representatives at a restaurant in their accommodation in Lviv the previous evening local time, "Lviv has now become like a rear area, but it is still a place where many refugees are gathering," adding, "We heard detailed discussions about what kind of support is needed, such as temporary housing."
Lee stated, "In Lviv, there is actually a strong expectation for support from Korean society. In particular, they are requesting aid such as medicines and long-term preservable food," and added, "We hope to connect with Korean NGO organizations."
Besides Lee, the meeting was attended by lawmakers Kim Hyung-dong, Park Sung-min, Jung Dong-man, Tae Young-ho, and Heo Eun-ah, as well as Kim Cheol-geun, chief of staff for the party leader’s political affairs office, and Kim Hyung-tae, ambassador to Ukraine.
Before departing, on the morning of the 3rd, Lee met with Dmytro Ponomarenko, the Ukrainian ambassador to Korea, and discussed the local situation. After the meeting, he told reporters, "This time, the delegation representing the ruling party intends to approach the situation in Ukraine concretely to grasp the reality and convey it vividly to President Yoon Suk-yeol."
