How Naver and Kakao Celebrate 'Environment Day'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] The two major portal companies, Naver and Kakao, each commemorated 'Environment Day' on the 5th in their own ways.
On Environment Day, Naver unveiled a special logo and a ‘Naver Environment Day’ campaign page that introduces various eco-friendly content at a glance.
On the campaign page, Naver Place recommends places worth visiting for Environment Day, such as ▲Zero Waste Shops near me ▲Refill Stations that reduce plastic ▲Recreational Forests ▲Dulle-gil trails.
On Naver Happybean, various donation themes are underway to commemorate Environment Day, including reducing food waste and cutting down on disposable cup usage. On Naver Shopping, the ‘Naver Green Shopping Week’ event introduces eco-friendly brand products easily found in daily life. Some products also offer special trial discounts.
On this day, Naver showcased a special logo on its main page expressing hopes for a healthy Earth. Collaborating with artist Yoon Yeji, this special logo depicts disappearing bees, trees, and polar bears on Earth to raise awareness of the climate crisis, while conveying the message that through environmental protection efforts, we can meet a smiling Earth again. Clicking the special logo leads to the campaign page where detailed information about Environment Day can be found.
Kakao prepared a Green Market event through its impact commerce platform Kakao Makers to mark Environment Day. All proceeds from the sales of some products launched through the event will be donated to bee support projects.
Kakao Makers focused on bees, which are facing a population decline crisis due to abnormal weather. Makers prepared this event to raise awareness that bees are responsible for pollinating over 70% of the world's fruits and vegetables, and that the crisis of bees could lead to a food crisis for humanity, aiming to gather interest in bees.
The related products consist of four items: an air purification poster, short-sleeve T-shirts, phone cases, and mugs, all featuring bee illustrations by illustrator Noisin. Additionally, zero waste and upcycling products that reduce environmental burden are sold together.
Kakao Makers plans to donate all proceeds from the sales of these four products to the beekeeping cooperative’s nectar tree support project. Nectar trees are the trees from which bees collect nectar and play a key role in the bee ecosystem. The beekeeping cooperative is the only honey-specialized cooperative in Korea and is a product cooperative under the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation. It strives to preserve the bee ecosystem and support beekeepers annually through nectar tree support.
Meanwhile, Naver and Kakao are also strengthening the environmental sector of their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management. Naver has built eco-friendly infrastructure throughout its office buildings to enable employees to practice eco-friendliness as conveniently as possible. At its second office building, 1784, disposable cups in the in-house cafe were replaced with reusable cups, and AI RECYCLING (AI trash bins) that automatically sort cans, PET bottles, and milk cartons were introduced on work and common floors.
