According to economic media outlets CNBC and MarketWatch, President Biden made the remarks on the 3rd (local time) during a speech related to the May employment report when asked about Musk's statement that he "does not feel very good about the economic situation."
President Biden praised Musk's competitors who have increased investments in electric vehicles, saying, "While CEO Musk is saying that, Ford is significantly increasing its investment in making new electric vehicles." He then addressed Musk, saying, "I wish you good luck on your trip to the moon."
After President Biden's remarks were made public, Musk posted on Twitter, "Thank you, Mr. President!"
Earlier, Musk had sent an email titled "Global Hiring Freeze" to executives, expressing a very negative feeling about the economic situation and stating that Tesla would completely halt new hiring and reduce staff by about 10%.
