Russia: "No Cooperation with the US in Culture, Humanities, Education, and Media"
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] Russia has notified the United States of the suspension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on cooperation in the fields of culture, humanities, education, and media.
According to local Russian media on the 3rd, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated, "Maintaining the MOU has lost its meaning," and "a related note (diplomatic note) was delivered to the U.S. Embassy in Moscow on the 1st."
Russia and the United States signed the MOU on cooperation in these fields in 1998. It includes provisions for cooperation in various areas such as theater and performance, exhibition hosting, distribution of textbooks, books, and films, and promotion of English and Russian language education in both countries.
