Korea Rail Network Authority Conducts First Comprehensive Precision Inspection and Performance Evaluation of All Railway Facilities
The Korea Rail Network Authority announced on the 3rd that it will conduct the first-ever detailed inspections and performance evaluations across all areas of railway facilities, including tracks, buildings, electrification and power, communications, and signaling, to ensure efficient maintenance of railway infrastructure.
According to the "Act on the Construction and Maintenance of Railways," the Authority will conduct detailed inspections and performance evaluations every five years starting this year for railway facilities that have been in operation for more than 10 years after completion.
By reflecting the analysis of performance changes for each facility, the Authority plans to manage facilities systematically and scientifically to establish a safer railway system, deriving reasonable mid- to long-term maintenance strategies.
This detailed inspection and performance evaluation of railway facilities is being implemented for the first time due to the need for efficient and stable maintenance following the continuous expansion of the railway network. The management approach will shift from the existing method of diagnosing and repairing railway facilities based on aging and safety standards to a performance-centered maintenance system based on safety, durability, and usability.
To this end, the Authority will prioritize the issuance of 13 contracts worth 3.7 billion KRW for detailed inspections and performance evaluations of 121.8 km of track facilities and 20 buildings across 11 nationwide lines, including the Ilsan Line and Chungbuk Line. Subsequently, contracts for system areas such as electrification and power will be issued within this month.
