CCTV to Be Installed in All Cars of KTX and Metropolitan Subway Trains
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 3rd that it will install CCTV (video recording devices) in all train cars to prevent crimes and ensure safety on trains.
KORAIL plans to sequentially install CCTV in all 3,531 train cars currently operating, including KTX, Mugunghwa-ho, and metropolitan subway trains, by investing 32.2 billion KRW by 2023. CCTV footage inside trains and railway stations will be used only for purposes such as criminal investigations in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act.
Two types of CCTV systems will be used depending on the train type. The 'network system,' which allows real-time monitoring from the driver's cabin in emergencies, and the 'individual independent system,' which stores footage inside the passenger cars, will be installed respectively.
Before introducing the CCTV, KORAIL held a product evaluation meeting, reflected improvement suggestions such as protruding shapes, colors, and materials, and plans to introduce the system after testing for vibration and impact during train operation.
