Suwon City Receives 'Excellence Award' at Gyeonggi Province-Hosted Environmental Awards
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province received the 'Gyeonggi-do Environmental Award Grand Prize.'
On the 3rd, Suwon City announced that it received the Environmental Award Grand Prize at the Environment Day ceremony hosted by Gyeonggi Province, held at the Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus in Gwonseon-gu.
The Gyeonggi-do Environmental Award is given by the province to institutions that have contributed to environmental conservation and sustainable development in commemoration of Environment Day, and this year marks its 6th anniversary.
The city was selected as the top local government this year by receiving the highest score in the comprehensive evaluation among 31 cities and counties in the province.
In particular, the city received high marks in the evaluation for its advanced establishment of a regional response system to protect environmental safety, such as regularly holding the Chemical Accident Management Committee involving public institutions, industry officials, academia, and civic groups within the region, and conducting joint drills to prepare for hazardous chemical accidents.
A city official emphasized, "Suwon City's consistent efforts to protect and nurture the environment have led to the achievement of the Gyeonggi-do Environmental Award Grand Prize. We will continue to implement environmental policies that citizens can experience, fitting the status of a carbon-neutral future and an environmental capital."
