The Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee held a closed meeting on the morning of the same day to discuss follow-up measures after the local election defeat and then announced the total resignation of the leadership.
Yoon Ho-jung, co-chairman of the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee, said at a press conference, "All members of the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee have decided to take responsibility for the local election results and resign en masse," adding, "We first apologize to the citizens and party members who supported us despite this election defeat."
He continued, "We thank the citizens who have raised the whip for greater reform and bold innovation of the Democratic Party," and added, "We also apologize to the 2,974 candidates who did their best until the very end."
