Democratic Party Gwangju Candidates "Will Lead Innovation with a More Humble Attitude"
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] On the 31st, a day before the June 1 local election voting day, candidates from the Democratic Party in the Gwangju region appealed for support, saying, “With rapid change, continuous innovation, and a more humble attitude, the Democratic Party will take the lead in Gwangju’s development.”
The candidates held a joint press conference at 11 a.m. that day in the Gwangju City Council Citizen Communication Room and repeatedly promised the Democratic Party’s innovation.
Attending the press conference were candidate Kang Gijeong, Dong-gu Mayor candidate Im Taek, Seo-gu Mayor candidate Kim Igang, Nam-gu Mayor candidate Kim Byeongnae, Buk-gu Mayor candidate Moon In, Gwangsan-gu Mayor candidate Park Byeonggyu, and city council candidates.
They said, “We apologize for the various conflicts that were exposed as we entered the local elections immediately after the presidential election defeat without having time for innovation,” and “We will thoroughly understand the meaning of the presidential election defeat and the People Power Party’s 12.7% vote share and keep the heavy reprimand in mind.”
They continued, “Gwangju is the root of the Democratic Party and the driving force of party innovation,” adding, “We will continue to innovate and become a more humble Democratic Party until the citizens tell us to stop. With a humble attitude, we will devote ourselves solely to the development of Gwangju.”
They also appealed for participation in the local election voting to create the power for regional development.
They said, “The new era of Gwangju is a transition to a Gwangju where my life is happy, in addition to the Gwangju that revolutionized history,” and “Citizen participation in voting is the fastest way to open a new era of Gwangju. Unlike the low early voting rate, which was second lowest after Daegu, please gather the power for regional development with the highest voter turnout nationwide.”
They added, “The power for Gwangju’s development lies with the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party will resolve citizens’ concerns about the Yoon Seok-yeol government’s neglect of Honam,” and “The election period is the most important time to solve regional issues. Gangwon Province enacted the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Act, and Busan is rapidly promoting the Gadeok New Airport.”
They went on, “It is the optimal time to promote the five key pledges prepared by Democratic Party candidates: semiconductor specialized complex, next-generation battery cluster, future car smart green industrial complex, international MICE convergence district, digital art special zone, and Songjeong station area development,” and “Gwangju must be rapidly transformed into a vibrant city.”
