Yongin City Makes Public Bus Boarding Easier... Front and Rear 'LED Display Boards' Installed
[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Public bus license plates and destination confirmation in Yongin City, Gyeonggi Province, will become easier.
Yongin City announced on the 30th that LED display boards have been installed on the front and rear of 165 "Yongin City public buses," including 69 city buses and 96 village buses. The city invested 150 million KRW of municipal funds for this.
The LED display boards are installed on the exterior front and rear of the vehicles to indicate the bus destination and route number.
Existing display boards on the exterior front and rear are difficult to identify at night or during rain, but the LED display boards make it easy to recognize the bus number and destination even at night.
The city plans to additionally install LED display boards on 23 Yongin City public buses (10 routes) by October.
The city expects that unifying the LED display methods, which varied by bus, will provide stability and improve convenience for citizens.
A city official said, "With the installation of LED display boards, citizens can easily check the destination or bus number," adding, "We will continue to monitor citizens' inconveniences and manage public transportation centered on users."
Earlier, on March 1, the city boldly introduced the "Route Management Type Bus Semi-Public Operation System" for a total of 110 routes, including 59 village bus routes and 51 general city bus routes.

With the introduction of the bus semi-public operation system, the city owns and manages the routes, strengthening the public service by establishing new routes in transportation-vulnerable areas. Transport companies receive transportation costs estimated in advance from the city and can receive additional compensation for deficits depending on profit generation, enabling stable operation.
