[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] Following former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae appealed for support by urging people to "protect by voting" for Choi Min-hee, the Democratic Party candidate running for mayor of Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province.
On the 29th, former Minister Chu posted on her Facebook, starting with, "Even if the world is moving in an undesirable direction, we will not truly realize the regression of democracy until we see irreversible mistakes and tragic outcomes with our own eyes." She then introduced candidate Choi as "Choi Min-hee, who has always been a devoted guardian of democracy like a lighthouse keeper, our comrade like a painful little finger."
She added, "Eight years ago, she moved to Namyangju, a tough district, saying that the groundwork must be laid here first for a regime change. However, after the regime change, her own candidacy for the general election was blocked," and continued, "I earnestly pray that this time we protect her by voting, who tried to uphold the true spirit of the Candlelight government throughout its five years."
Earlier, former Minister Cho also referred to candidate Choi as the 'Candlelight People's Sister' and appealed for support. On the previous day, Cho mentioned Choi on Facebook, saying, "I owe her a great debt of gratitude" and "I am sorry for not being able to help at all."
