The Shinbundang Line Gangnam to Sinsa Section Opens on the 28th... Gwanggyo to Sinsa in 42 Minutes
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] From the 28th, the Shinbundang Line subway in the Seoul metropolitan area will be extended and opened between Gangnam and Sinsa.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 26th that the existing Shinbundang Line operation section between Gwanggyo and Gangnam Station will be extended to the transfer stations Sinnonhyeon Station (Line 9), Nonhyeon Station (Line 7), and Sinsa Station (Line 3).
With the extension of the Shinbundang Line, it will be possible to travel from Gwanggyo Station to Sinsa Station in 42 minutes. Previously, commuting by bus took about 80 minutes. With this opening, residents of the southern Gyeonggi region can transfer to travel to Gangseo, Songpa, and Gangdong areas (Line 9), Gwangjin and Dongjak areas (Line 7), and Jongno and Eunpyeong areas (Line 3).
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport installed fully enclosed safety doors (screen doors) at all stations considering users' health and safety, and the trains were designed so that the doors can be manually opened and closed for emergency evacuation.
The double-track Shinbundang Line opened the Gangnam to Jeongja section in 2012 and the Jeongja to Gwanggyo section in 2016. A total project cost of 444.4 billion KRW was invested in the construction of the newly opened Gangnam to Sinsa section.
