The civic group Liberty Korea Patriotic Corps announced on the 26th that it will report Jin and Kim Seung-hyun, the Democratic Party candidate for Gangseo District Mayor, to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency for violating the Public Official Election Act and the Personal Information Protection Act.
The Liberty Korea Patriotic Corps stated, "Buying votes with money in elections, which are called the flower of democracy, clearly goes against the spirit of the Constitution, and they must be severely punished through thorough investigation."
Meanwhile, Jin and Kim have already been reported for the same suspicions, and the Gangseo Police Station in Seoul has started an investigation. On the 11th, the Gangseo Police Station conducted a search and seizure at the office of construction businessman Jo, who was identified as Jin’s 'sponsor.'
The suspicion of Jin recruiting party members with money was raised at a press conference on April 4 held at the National Assembly, titled 'Conscience Declaration Regarding Illegal Activities of the Democratic Party Gangseo-eul Regional Committee,' arranged by Jo Su-jin, a member of the People Power Party.
At the press conference, Yoon Doo-kwon, vice chairman of the Democratic Party Gangseo-eul, claimed, "In Gangseo-gu, where the Democratic Party is in power, party members were illegally recruited using cash, and the list of rights-holding party members was illegally leaked."
Furthermore, on the 10th, Representative Jo revealed, "Sponsor Jo gave 40 million won to Vice Chairman Yoon, who then handed out 3 million won each to various middle-level organizers. They then distributed about 300,000 won each to lower-level recruiters as compensation for recruiting rights-holding party members."
