"Growing Pains for a Changing Minjoo Party, We Will Definitely Change"
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] Park Ji-hyun, the Standing Election Committee Chairperson of the Democratic Party of Korea, maintained her stance amid internal party noise surrounding her remarks, stating, "No matter what obstacles arise, I will unwaveringly pursue party reform and political reform."
On the 25th, through Facebook, Chairperson Park said, "There have been criticisms and claims that my appeal statement had procedural issues," adding, "Before the press conference, I asked Yoon Ho-jung, the Standing Election Committee Chairperson, to hold the press conference together, and I conveyed the purpose and content to Kim Min-seok, the General Election Headquarters Chief overseeing election strategy, and consulted with him."
She continued, "I do not know what further procedures should have been followed, nor which party leader drafts their own press conference statement through internal party consensus."
She emphasized, "I accepted the position of emergency committee chairperson to change the Democratic Party with the voice of the people and the youth," and added, "We should not nitpick over trivial issues but show a vision for innovation."
She further stated, "Only a younger Democratic Party, a stricter Democratic Party, a Democratic Party that keeps its promises, a Democratic Party that is a mass party rather than a fandom party, and a Democratic Party preparing for the future can give hope to the people."
