Lee Jae-myung: "'Localism' vs 'Meritocracy' Battle... I Will Make Gyeyang Like Pangyo"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] On the 25th, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea candidate running for the Incheon Gyeyang-eul by-election in the June 1 local elections, emphasized, "The Gyeyang-eul election is a contest between 'regionalists' who compete as locals of Gyeyang for 25 years and 'competence advocates' who compete with proven achievements," adding, "I will make Gyeyang-eul like Pangyo."
Candidate Lee, who canceled all scheduled campaign events that morning and took a 'breather' preparing for TV debate recordings, said on Facebook in the afternoon, "To turn Gyeyang's potential into reality, a great and capable worker is needed."
He emphasized, "Just as I succeeded with Pangyo Techno Valley and transformed Seongnam City into the best-level city in Korea in 8 years, and Gyeonggi Province in 3 years, I will definitely change Gyeyang based on experience and capability."
He continued, "This local election is an opportunity to choose a capable worker to balance the two forces, stabilize national governance through healthy competition, develop politics, and improve the lives of the people," adding, "Would you like to change your life? If so, please choose ability over regional ties."
